Master Programmes

The Software Systems Engineering Group provides two advanced master programmes:

Both programmes provide an ideal foundation for graduates who wish to pursue a career as a software engineers or do research in software systems engineering. The Msc in Financial Systems Engineering provides additional instructions preparing students to work in the financial sector.

The programmes

The programmes provide instruction in all aspects of software engineering needed for the development of large, complex, highly dynamic, distributed software-intensive systems. The courses cover requirements engineering, software design, validation and verification, and tools for the development of software intensive systems. A significant part of the programme consists of a large industrial or research project.

The programmes begin at the end of September each year and last for 12 months. They are designed for full time study and are not suitable for part-time students.

Application forms

Due to the large number of applications we receive, we recommend that you submit your application early, preferably before 1 April. The deadlline for an application to be considered for entry for the following September is 1 July.

Entrance Requirements

The MSc SSE and MSc FSE are designed for people who have a first or upper second class honours BSc (or equivalent) in computer science, computing, computer engineering or software engineering. Alternatively, candidates may offer electronic/electrical engineering or other engineering/science degrees with at least two years of professional experience as software developer. Industrial experience may compensate for lesser degrees or lack of technical qualification. Students from the MEng/MSci Computer Science programme at UCL, or programmes from other institutions with a similar curriculum, will not be accepted into this programme.

All students must also satisfy UCL's English Language Proficiency Requirement.

If your first degree is not in computing or related fields, you may be interested in the MSc Computer Science or MSc Computational Finance programmes.
