The MSc FSE Programme
The MSc in Financial Systems Engineering includes eight courses plus a group project. Each student undertakes the seven core courses and group project and chooses one option.
Core Courses
- System Requirements Engineering (GS01)
- Advanced Analysis and Design (GS02)
- Validation and Verification (GS03)
- Tools & Environments (GS04)
- Financial Institutions and Markets (GS06)
- Professional Practice (GZ07)
- Financial Information Systems (GS07)
Options
Students can choose one option from one of the modules that are part of other advanced MSc in the department. Typical option choices for the latter case include the following:
- Compliance, Risk and Regulation (GF03)
- Language Based Security (COMPGS10)
- People and Security (COMPGA10)
- Networked Systems (COMPGZ01)
- Distributed Systems and Security (COMPGZ03)
- Mobile and Cloud Computing (COMPGZ06)
- Supervised Learning (COMPGI01)
- Evolutionary & Natural Computation (COMPGI06)
- Information Retrieval and Data Mining (COMPGI15)
Not all combinations of options are feasible; you should consult with the course co-ordinator to determine which combinations are feasible. Some option courses may be oversubscribed. In case of oversubscription, places available to MSc FSE students will be allocated by giving priority to students who firmly accepted UCL offer on the programme at an earlier date.
Group Project
Students will participate in a group project (GS99) designed to demonstrate their understanding of the principles and techniques learned in the courses. Students will act as team members carrying out the engineering lifecycle for a significant software system and will apply creativity, judgment and critical thinking in the design, analysis and refinement of the models and artefacts of the software system. Assessment of the project is weighted at 40% for an individual report, 40% for a group report, and 20% for an individual viva.
Scheme of Award
